TweetDeck taken down after access bug found

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Twitter has taken the TweetDeck app offline to look into an apparent bug that has given some users access to hundreds of Twitter and Facebook accounts.

According to tech blog Techcrunch, Australian TweetDeck user Geoff Evason says he discovered he was somehow able to access hundreds of other accounts through TweetDeck.

After emailing and tweeting TweetDeck developer Twitter on Friday, and showing them how the bug allowed him to send tweets from accounts he did not own, Twitter shut down global access to TweetDeck, which is a power app used by thousands of Twitter users around the world.

The only word from Twitter was a tweet from @TweetDeck:

TweetDeck is currenly down while we look into an issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.

TweetDeck allows Twitter users to access and manage multiple accounts, content lists, messages and posts on a single web page.

There's no word from Twitter as to when TweetDeck service will be restored.
