WW II Veteran Denied Disability Insurance for 28 Long Years

Oakland, CA: A 90-year-old veteran of World War II who first applied for disability payments in 1986 and has since been made to deal with denied disability insurance countless times has finally, after 28 long years, reached the light at the end of his tunnel. But it’s been a long road for the military veteran who once stood amongst the ruins of Hiroshima not long after the atomic bomb was dropped. He even drank thirstily from a nearby well amidst the rubble. According to The San Francisco Chronicle (1/25/14), John Brenan would have had no idea at the time, in 1945, that he was surrounded by radiation from the explosion. In fact, doctors told him four decades later that it was probably the radiation exposure that led to his colon cancer in the mid-1980s. The good news is that Brenan beat the disease. Unpaid Wages Lawsuits Filed against Call Centers

Minneapolis, MN: Unpaid wages lawsuits have been filed against call centers, alleging employees have not been paid properly for time spent involved in regular job activities. These unpaid wages claims allege employees routinely spend time off the clock engaged in duties that are required for their employment, in violation of federal employment laws. Lawsuits filed against call centers allege employees are routinely required to perform duties such as logging on to computer servers, running a suite of programs and downloading customer information before the start of their shift. They further allege that they are automatically clocked out at the scheduled end of their shift, even if at the time they are still involved in assisting a customer on the phone. Once off the phone, they must then log out of their computer systems. According to lawsuits, it can take up to 10 minutes to log in per shift and additional time to wrap up phone calls and log out after a shift. All this is allegedly
