Whitey Need Not Apply
by Patrick J. Buchanan (more by this author)
Posted 08/01/2008 ET

"Will race be an issue in this campaign?"

Hearing the cable talk-show host solemnly pose the question, I could not suppress a belly laugh.

For the anchor was fearful that some white folks might reject Obama because he is African-American -- even as a Rasmussen poll was reporting that Barack is beating McCain among black voters 94 to 1.

What, other than race, explains how Barack rolled up 90-10 margins among black voters while running against Hillary Clinton, wife of the man novelist Toni Morrison dubbed "our first black president"?

Indeed, so one-sided was the primary coverage in favor of Barack as the first African-American with a real chance to be president, even "Saturday Night Live" took to mocking the mainstream media.

As for black radio, on "The Tom Joyner Morning Show," "Michael Baisden Show" and "The Steve Harvey Morning Show," which together may reach 20 million folks, there is "little pretense of balance," writes Jim Rutenberg of The New York Times. "More often than not the Obama campaign is discussed as the home team."

Black Entertainment Television plans to carry Barack's speech to the Democratic convention live, but has no plans to carry McCain's. Barack's speech "is an historic occasion," says BET Chairman Debra L. Lee, "so that demands some special treatment from us."

As the mainstream media have moved left and talk radio right, and cable is breaking down along political and ideological lines, there is something else afoot now -- the racial Balkanization of the newsroom.

Consider. On Sunday, 6,800 folks showed in Chicago for the 2008 quadrennial convention of UNITY: Journalists of Color. McCain declined an invitation. Bush had been booed at UNITY 2004, while John Kerry got a standing ovation. Featured speaker: Barack. Major concern of the journalists running the show: that their colleagues would lift the roof off the McCormick Place convention center when Barack arrived.

Said Luis Villareal, a producer of NBC's "Dateline," "I don't think it's such a bad thing if for 15 minutes you take off your reporter hat and respond to (Obama) as a human being at an event where you're surrounded by people of color and you're here for a united cause."

And exactly what "cause" might the 10,000 members of UNITY be united behind? The hiring and advancement of journalists of color in all major news organizations in America.

For, as its emblem depicts, UNITY comprises four alliances: the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.

"A New Journalism for a Changing World" is UNITY's motto. And the title of its July 22 press release reveals what the "new journalism" is all about. "Aim of New UNITY Initiative Is More Diversity in Top Media Management."

"With more than 50 percent of the population projected to be people of color in less than a generation," says UNITY President Karen Lincoln Michel, "the nation's news organizations continue to generate dismal diversity numbers year after year. ... 'Ten by 2010' is a significant step in the right direction."

What is Ten by 2010?

UNITY is demanding that 10 major U.S. news organizations, by mid-2010, elevate to a senior management position in the newsroom at least one journalist of color and provide "customized training to help prepare them."

The journalist may be Asian, African-American, Native American or Hispanic, which rules out journalists of Irish, English, Polish, Italian, German or Jewish ancestry, since they are white.

Is this what we have come to 50 years after the triumph of the civil rights movement? Flat-out demands, by American journalists, for the hiring and promotion of colleagues based on race and color?

Is there any evidence major news organizations in this country have engaged in systematic discrimination to keep out men or women of color this last half century? The reverse seems true. They have bent over backward to advance minority journalists.

And if journalists have been hired and promoted based on ability and merit, why in the 21st century should these criteria be thrown out as the standards for advancement -- in favor of race and color?

Isn't this what they did in the days of Jim Crow -- hire and promote based on race? What UNITY is calling for is a return to the old rules but with new beneficiaries -- blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans -- and new victims, all of whom will be white.

On Sunday, McCain came out in favor of an Arizona civil rights initiative that would outlaw any state discrimination either for or against folks, based on race, gender or national origin. Barack said he was "disappointed" with McCain and told UNITY he favors affirmative action "when properly structured."

The Arizona referendum banning preferential treatment based on race is also on the ballot in the swing state of Colorado. It won in California in 1996, in Washington in 2000 and in Michigan in the great Democratic sweep of 2006. It has never lost, and may just win McCain Colorado, and with it the nation.

Pelosi Liberals Ramp Up Efforts to Hush Rush Limbaugh

Do you support the government forcing Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and other conservatives on talk radio OFF THE AIR?

Well, that's exactly what Nancy Pelosi and other liberals in Congress are working to do RIGHT NOW through the reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

In fact, Pelosi admitted as much at a recent breakfast hosted by Christian Science Monitor and attended by the news media.

During the breakfast, Human Events Political Editor John Gizzi asked Pelosi if she would permit a vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act -- the bill sponsored by Representative Mike Pence (R-IN) to prevent reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine -- if Pence secured the necessary signatures on his discharge petition to force his bill out of committee.

Without hesitation, Pelosi's answer was an unequivocal "NO!"

But that's not all! According to Mr. Gizzi:

"[Pelosi] added that 'the interest in my caucus is the reverse' and that New York Democratic Rep. 'Louise Slaughter has been active behind this [revival of the Fairness Doctrine] for a while now.' ...

"'So I don't see it [the Pence bill] coming to the floor,' Pelosi said."

And, like any good reporter would do, Gizzi asked the obvious follow-up question:

"'Do you personally support revival of the Fairness Doctrine?' I asked."

"'Yes,' the speaker replied, without hesitation."

So there you have it. When it comes to silencing dissenting voices to their leftist agenda, Pelosi and Company says "silence them all, silence them now!"

Never mind the will of the people! Never mind the First Amendment to the Constitution, which Pelosi and her liberal cohorts took an oath to uphold!

Since we last alerted you to liberals' efforts to HUSH RUSH and other conservatives on talk radio, two more Members of Congress have stepped forward and signed Pence's discharge petition.

That means we are now only 16 signatures shy of forcing the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the House floor for a fair up-or-down vote.

That means your blast faxes, phone calls, and letters to Congress are having a major impact -- you and your fellow CFIF activists deserve all the credit for this progress.

But we must turn up the heat. Together, we must call Pelosi's bluff by helping Congressman Pence secure those 16 remaining signatures today to force Pelosi to hold a vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act!

Use the hyperlink below to send your personalized and urgent Blast Fax Messages to President George W. Bush and EACH and EVERY Member of the Leadership of the House of Representatives.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is STILL REFUSING to allow a fair up-or-down vote on Rep. Mike Pence's Broadcaster Freedom Act -- a simple bill that will thwart attempts by liberals to institute their so-called "Fairness Doctrine" and KILL CONSERVATIVE TALK RADIO. Remember, we are making progress. We only need 16 more signatures on Pence's discharge petition to FORCE Pelosi to allow a fair up-or-down vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act.

And that means we need to keep bombarding them until they cry 'uncle' and finally do what their employers -- the American people -- want. Tell them the American people should be free to decide whether they want to listen to Rush Limbaugh, or Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham. Tell them we do not live in the former Soviet Union and that liberals in Congress have no right to decide what the American people should or should not hear!

The only thing standing between Americans and lower gas prices is an intransigent leadership in Congress

Time to Win

It’s now less than four months until Election Day 2008, and the Democrats and their leftist allies are unleashing their full arsenal of smear-and-fear tactics against John McCain and our Republican candidates.
With the help of Big Labor, radical groups like MoveOn.org, and George Soros and other left-wing billionaires, the Democrats have over a billion dollars to blanket America’s airwaves with partisan, misleading attacks.
This is all on top of the fawning, one-sided coverage Barack Obama and Democrat candidates receive from the mainstream media.
Recently, The New York Times ran an editorial from Barack Obama spelling out his desire to withdraw from Iraq before victory is achieved. When John McCain wrote a rebuttal against Obama’s plan for defeat, the Times refused to print it, citing as their reason, “it would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama’s piece.”
What New York Times editors don’t seem to understand is that John McCain doesn’t base his positions on what the liberal media wants, but what he knows to be right for America.
If our candidates are to achieve victory this November, they must get their message of commonsense conservatism and principled leadership past the media filter and directly to the voters who will decide our nation’s future course.

The Brangelina-fication Of The Obamas

The Brangelina-fication Of The Obamas
By Michelle Malkin
July 30, 2008

You couldn't pass a grocery store line this weekend without seeing the picture-perfect smiles of the Obama family. There were Barack Obama's young daughters (whose privacy their parents so sanctimoniously claim to want to protect) flashing their pearly whites on the cover of People magazine. Malia and Sasha competed for attention right next to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's toddler daughter, Shiloh, whose cherubic face was splashed on the cover of another celebrity tabloid. Next to them beamed basket-case starlet Lindsay Lohan and her new lesbian lover -- oh, and that formerly pregnant "man" who just gave birth to a baby girl.

The Obamas blended seamlessly into this Hollyweird pop culture galaxy.

The spread in People, which earlier this year fawned over a photo of the bare-chested Obama in his swimsuit, was supposed to be an "exclusive" first and last look at life at home with the Obamas. Knowing what we know about the Obama we know now, it probably won't be the last.

They've hawked the kids to TV gossip show "Access Hollywood," blabbed about their romance to Us Weekly magazine, and plopped Michelle O -- the purported "civilian" whom the Obamessiah declares immune from public criticism -- in front of the cameras to schmooze effortlessly for "The Colbert Report" and "The View" demographics. They believe their two-faced tabloid strategy (show their true elitist colors behind closed doors, but play the Every Family for the Obamedia sycophants) is working. Given our dumbed-down, celebrity-obsessed culture, they are probably right.

Who cares about Barack's perilous lack of foreign policy experience, his longtime associations with left-wing radicals and domestic terrorists, and his business dealings with Chicago corruptocrats? People magazine brings you the scoop on what really matters in this critical presidential campaign: Michelle hula-hoops with her daughters. They're just like you and me! The kids have slumber parties. They're just like you and me! Barack does laundry, but he doesn't fold it. They're just like you and me! The kids get small allowances. They're just like you and me! The Obamas wear normal clothes while doing normal things.

THEY'RE JUST LIKE YOU AND ME!

There's a popular feature in most gossip magazines that rates celebrities as "normal" vs. "not normal" or "diva" vs. "down to earth." This is supposed to humanize the stars and make celebrity followers feel better about their empty idol worship. Paparazzi catch "normal" famous people in candid moments -- taking out the trash, scarfing down hot dogs, goofing around with their kids at the playground -- and magazine editors compare them to photos of "not normal" celebs in elitist repose -- walking with their umbrella carriers, surrounded by seven bodyguards and three nannies, boarding their Gulfstreams, etc.

The fatal flaw in the tabloids' Obamas-as-next-door-neighbors propaganda, of course, is that unlike the candid shots of normal, down-to-earth celebrities without makeup or entourages, the photos of the Obamas in "normal" mode are all carefully choreographed fauxtographs.

While Snobama complains about "bitter" rural voters who "cling" to their guns and religion and moans about the price of arugula in his candid unscripted moments, JustLikeYou&Me Michelle cunningly brags about buying her sundresses at discount retailer H&M and, with studied casualness, tells reporters that she doesn't mind if the kids' beds aren't perfectly made. Uh-huh.

The Obamas do everything but pick their noses for the cameras to mimic Real People bona fides. The Obamedia stenographers in the celebrity press -- and the mainstream press, for that matter -- eat it up. And so do the American people. Former Star magazine editor Bonnie Fuller, citing a poll showing that more adults would like to invite Obama to a summer barbecue than McCain, hailed the Obamas in Advertising Age as the "Brangelina of the political world."

Obama and his political paparazzi are banking on people's stupidity and his cult of personality to carry him to the White House. Unfortunately, the odds are in his favor. Just try talking to one of the millions of people with their noses buried in People or Us about Obama's relationship with Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, his flip-flops on the Iraq war surge and his reckless naivete regarding Iran, and you'll see what I mean.

The exclamation of a journalist at the UNITY minority news media gathering this weekend sums up the star-struck reverence that fuels the Obama phenomenon: "He touched me!" And yet, he's sooo "down to earth."

Hurtling toward a government of the stupid, by the stupid, for the stupid we go.

AIDS rates among U.S. blacks rival Africa

The report, published by the Black AIDS Institute, an HIV/AIDS think tank focused exclusively on African-Americans, found that while blacks represent only about one in eight Americans, half of those living with HIV in the United States is black, CNN reported.

OBAMA’S WOMEN PROBLEM

OBAMA’S WOMEN PROBLEM

By DICK MORRIS

Published on TheHill.com on July 29, 2008.

If soccer moms determined the outcome of the 1996 presidential race and security moms tipped the balance in 2004, it is beginning to look as if older moms are the key to the 2008 contest. Obama has a problem among women over 40 and a big problem among women over 50. These groups, normally the staunchest of Democratic supporters, are showing a propensity to back McCain and a disinclination to support Obama.

According to the latest Fox News survey, Obama is winning among women under 40 by 13 points, but McCain is winning among women aged 41-45 by four points. Among women 50 and over, McCain is three points ahead. Obama’s 48-35 lead among women under 40 is normal for a Democrat, but to trail among women in their 40s by 45-41 and by women over 50 by 38-35 is extraordinary.

The problem is that older women don’t like Obama as much as younger women do. While 70 percent of women under 40 have a favorable opinion of the Democratic candidate, only 58 percent of women in their 40s feel the same way, and only 52 percent of those over 50 see him favorably.

For a Democrat to be losing among women over 40 is without precedent in the past 20 years.

In fact, the gap between male and female voting preference in this election is far lower than it normally is. Among people under 40, men back Obama by eight points and women support him by 13. Among those in their 40s, men back McCain by 11 points and women support him by four. And for those over 50, men vote for the Republican by a nine-point margin while women prefer him by three points.

Usually, the gender gap runs at least 10 points in each age group and, more usually, averages a 15-point differential. The lower gap in this race does not indicate any special popularity for McCain or negatives on Obama among men. Men are voting the way they usually do. It’s women who are making the big difference and keeping this race tied.

Part of the problem may stem from Obama’s defeat of Hillary Clinton during the primaries. Hillary drew her strongest support from older women who still remembered the sexism of their youth and their struggles to pierce the glass ceiling. For younger women, sexism has much less personal relevance and they were less drawn to her candidacy.

But a bigger problem may be a cultural alienation older white women feel toward Obama. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright may linger as a worry in their increasingly gray heads as they contemplate an Obama presidency. This fear of the unknown and the gap they seem to feel with Obama is so strong that it is overcoming their normal proclivity to back Democrats.

Of course, McCain is a uniquely attractive candidate to the Democratic and independent base. Long regarded as a maverick Republican, he attracts these swing voters and is ideally positioned to exploit the estrangement between older women and Barack Obama.

Would choosing Hillary as a running mate assuage the concerns of older white women? It might.

They could get enthusiastic, one would think, about seeing a woman sitting a few feet away from the president in the Oval Office (again!).

But Hillary would bring with her a different set of problems. Her candidacy would invite scrutiny of Bill’s financial dealings, most recently exposed in The Wall Street Journal’s coverage of the incredible corruption of his buddy the president of Kazakhstan.

The problem is Obama. And it can only be solved by Obama, not by his running mate. For his part, McCain should take dead aim at this demographic, perhaps by selecting a female running mate who would appeal to them.

The current favorite, Mitt Romney, does him no earthly good with these folks, and his Mormonism is likely to be a big turnoff. But McCain could choose Condi Rice or any number of other Republican women (like Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Texas senator) and attract these dissident women.

Jay Leno on President Bush

Jay Leno on President Bush

(Surprising)
Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't
often see....
" As most of you know I am not a President? Bush fan,
nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is
about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark
'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came
across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It
must be true given the source, right?? The Newsweek poll
alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the
direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the
country is unhappy with the performance of? the President.
In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and
want a change. So being the knuckle drag ger I am, I
started thinking, 'What? are we so unhappy
about?''

A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24
hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning
in the summer and heating in the winter?

C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of? these unhappy folks
have a job?

D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at
any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen
in the last year?

E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks
from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having
to present identification papers as we move through each
state?

F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we
would find along the way that can provide temporary
shelter?

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying
cuisine from around the world is just not good enough
either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency
workers show up and provide services to help all and even
send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I.. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who
own a home.

J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate
case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear
in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the
flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat
screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer
equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to
defend you and your family against attack or loss.

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of
bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents.
Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and
computers.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and political
freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the
world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.
Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled
brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves
the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They
see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the
world who do nothing but complain about what we don't
have, and what we hate about the country instead of
thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into
war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a
measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same
president who guided the nation in the dark days after
9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out
of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been
called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all
the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist
attacks? The commander in chief of an? all-volunteer army
that is out there defending you and me?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk
show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy
you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all
the good things and be glad? Think about it.....are you
upset at the President because he actually caused you
personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you
he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every
day.
Make no mistake about it.

The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to
serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom.
There is currently no draft in this country. They
didn't have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a
''general'' discharge, an 'other than
honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a
''dishonorable' ' discharge after a few
days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69
percent of Americans?

Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds
it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will
watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will
watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows
this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They
offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their
actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another.
Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J.
Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his
wife, but if he did he would have done it this
way......Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times
for the bottom of your bird cage.? Then start being
grateful for all we have as country. There is exponentially
more good than bad. W e are among the most blessed people on
Earth and should thank God several times a day,
or at least be thankful and appreciative.' 'With
hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides,
flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from
one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and
terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to
take God out of the
Pledge of Allegiance?'
Jay Leno
