While the opening ceremonies of the Olympics were completely awesome, the Games have not been entirely without their controversy.
Most recently, word has come out that the girl we thought was singing "Hymn to the Motherland" during the Opening Ceremonies (on bottom) was actually lip-synching. Alone, this would be ok, however it turns out that she was lip synching because the actual girl that won a national competition (on right) to perform the anthem was deemed not "flawless in image."
Said the show's musical director:
"The main consideration was the national interest. The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings and in her expression."
